Is a town having no downtown a good thing or a bad thing? I've noticed that some towns in Bergen County do not have a downtown at all .. or a very weak downtown. Franklin Lakes, River Vale, Harrington Park, Washington Township, and Emerson are some towns that come into mind. But I know other towns like Ridgewood, Westwood, Bergenfield, and Englewood have great, pleasant downtowns for residents to enjoy. Plus, they are all decent and safe areas too.
I lived in Woodcliff Lake before I moved and the downtown consisted of a Post office, pizza shop and a laundromat. There are so many towns with a great deal to do and NYC was so close that my town needing anything else was never an issue. I miss it!!
Honestly, I like a downtown in a NEARBY town. This way you can utilize it, but your town is not getting the traffic and people coming in and out of it.
funny and I perfer not too have a big downtown like RIdgewood , too many people and traffic!!! However a little downtown is nice like my Peapack!!! This is a tiny little downtown, almost reminds me of Vermont or Conn. Everyone is different, however I think most people like a downtown
I think it's a bad thing if you don't have one. You get all of the traffic and none of the soul/civic life. Plus, if you live in a place like Red Bank or Collingswood traffic isn't really an issue because you can probably walk there just as easily.
