Someone was asking a few weeks ago where artificial Christmas trees would be on sale. I just got this ad from Michaels, in case you are interested. Plus if you join their email list, they send frequent coupons.

I am ALL about artificial. Real is dangerous and I leave my tree up too long for real. Never mind environmental issues.

Didn't they bust that myth a long time ago? I mean sure, if you assemble eight space heaters around the tree, keep the central heat set to 80 degrees, never give the tree any water, and light it with candles, yes, you will most certainly burn the house down. My parents usually get the their tree the weekend after Thanskgiving and leave it up until New Year's Day-nary a problem in the close to 30 years they've been doing it. The tree goes out just as green and healthy as it came in. On the environmental side of things Christmas tree farms serve as major carbon sinks that are constantly being renewed via new trees being planted to replace what's been cut. Not to mention that most towns collect them and grind them into topsoil/mulch. In fact, a major hunting and fishing organization recently worked with municipalities to collect Christmas trees that were then dropped into Assumpink Lake in Upper Freehold township to create mini "reefs" which give smaller fish cover and allow them to grow and thrive.

Not trying to make you, just stating the facts that:

-Real trees will not burn your house down

-Christmas tree farms are good for the environment

-Real trees smell better

I'm biased via family tradition. We make a whole big day out of it. My parents, my fiancee, my aunt, etc...all come along and pick our trees. My brother and I cut them down using the same saw that my grandfather cut trees with when my dad was a kid...just can't imagine it being any other way.

Very sweet - and that's a nice tradition.

Mine is it goes up on Thanksgiving and we take it down on 3 Kings day - except NOW we have a little one whose birthday is in Jan and she LOVES the tree, so we leave it up for her birthday and put a big "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" banner on it for her. So I need longevity! LOL
