My husband and I are looking to purchase our first home in NJ, possibly Somerset County. I am a police officer and he is a correction officer. We don't want to bite off more than we can chew so we were hoping to spend around...$250K for at least a 3bd 2bth. We have 2 children, a 15yr old and a 2 yr old, both girls. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW I have been looking and the homes that I've seen are cute but they ALL are until the sun goes down. Our time frame is by the end of 2009. HELLLLLLP!!!!!
That budget is not going to get you a house in a great neighborhood... at least not at the current prices. I think that prices will continue to go down, but I don't know if they will go down far enough for $250K to buy you much...
For somerset county, you're probably looking at Franklin which has some patchy areas. Maybe you should look into Edison. You could get a short sale with 3 bed and 1 bath for 250k. Two baths is really pushing it!
I agree with the above. If you can go another 25k, you can find one, just maybe not with 2 baths. We have 3 girls and 1 bath, still in our starter, and we make it.
