Blame Jersey! NY maple mystery solved -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/custom/fringe/ny-bc-ny--syrupysmell0205feb05,0,2950559.story - broken link)
Funny how only NY smells it.. WTF?
Quote:
Bloomberg said the odor has only been detected by New Yorkers a small number of times because the conditions apparently had to be quite specific.
The New Jerseyans were too tough to call. Can you imagine making that call? "I'd like to report a maple syrup odor". I can't quite pin it down, a movie, but can't you just see the guy on the other end of the phone almost passing out from laughing, the ensuing jokes.
It seems that it is our fault. That thoughtless NJ company belching out an offending....maple syrup odor. They spent tax dollars on an odor investigation.
I'm sure that a lot of people over in Hudson County have smelled the maple smell, knew where it came from or learned or couldn't be bothered.

Yeah and now I can picture New Yorkers calling about a smell coming from NJ and the person on the other end laughing...
Seriously, with all the smells coming out of NY, people from NJ are so used to it that they don't think anything of it.
I think New Yorkers should be more worried about the odor coming from pools of standing water in the gutters along 33rd Street. NJ is only trying to help them mask that stench.

New Jersey: America's Yankee Candle.
Exactly!
They try & make fun of NJ, but you know you're in NYC when you get a whiff of that sweet combination of smells - stale urine & the warmed up garbage that sits on the sidewalk piled high.
I smelt the syrup smell today in Fair Lawn as I was leaving work at 5:00.
