Teaneck is a very integrated town that attracts many middle class whites (christian and jewish), blacks, hispanics.Due to its' proximity to NYC, it attracts many musicians, theater people. All kinds of places of worship (churches, synagogues, mosque, ba'hai, ethical culture). The down town area is not that diverse right now.

I thought South Orange and Maplewood were pretty integrated. If I remember correctly the high school is pretty evenly balanced. Even at a 60/40 ratio it would be hard to have 60% of the population living in one section of town and 40% in another. The area of South Orange were I grew up became very integrated over time. Black/white/Asian it's the thing I like best about South Orange and the thing that I miss here in Toms River. And Maplewood was attracting a gay population.

I believe the point is they want a town that has a high proportion of africans-americans and is wealthy (good schools, facilities, low crime). You can't blame people for wanting to be with people similar to themselves.

^some people might actually think that way. some black people who are wealthy move to wealthy towns that are predominantly white. there's a family like where I live. they live here, in a nice town that is 95% white because they can. they can afford it, so why not?

i'm like most other people though, i prefer to live in an area where the people are like me. either that, or an area that offers a lot diversity. which i'd say, is what most people typically like.

Maplewood and Montclair are great neighborhoods with a large African American population, West Orange, Teaneck and Englewood are also good.

I didn't realize there was such a thing as an African-American town. Can you imagine the uproar on these boards if someone posted a thread inquiring about the best Caucasian towns in NJ? The OP would be excoriated as a racist. These racial double standards are getting really old.

Yes and how about the black who don't reign from Africa, shouldn't they be included too.
