Yeah I think the media does overplay a lot of it. That's not to say we don't live in some pretty scary times.
For me personally, I've been very fortunate. I landed a (better) job a few weeks after I moved. I've been at my new job for three months, and recruiters are still calling me for interviews (four so far). I love my job and I'm going to stay put. At the same time, I take nothing for granted and know that I could just as easily be on the other side of the fence.
I went to bestbuy yesterday - couldn't get a parking spot. Couldn't get into the video game aisle it was so packed. Not seeing the hard times around here. Not to say it's not coming...
Still have both jobs but the main job has a 1 week unpaid vacation requirement that must be taken during the first quarter and this is subject to being repeated 3 more times this year.
Still. I have both jobs and my health insurance. Given the bigger hits many have taken, Ill deal with it.
I've been very fortunate as well, been working for the same company for 13 years (knock on wood) but I do see a cut back on budgets and projects from our clients, they're very hesitant to start spending big money on marketing programs. My BIL lost his job back before the holidays, an aunt & my cousin have been out of work now for 6 months. Another cousin sells real estate in NYC and altough he's more into commercial R.E. he has seen big declines. DW has seen her #'s at work take a big drop where hardly nothing is moving. So that's my state of the union address. lol

Business is way down over at wiley's as well... But we are typically very slow this time of the year so I can't say if it's because of the economy or just a typical Jan - feb in the construction industry? We are however lining up some nice big projects for the spring so I still have hope.

Well, you're right, a lot of businesses's #'s drop after the holidays, however is how far down they are compared to previous years that makes people uneasy.

I can sling a hammer and am really great at landscaping......
Just want to see how everyone is holding up amid all this talk of recessions and jobless?
You can say the good or the bad. The media is doing a pretty good job of scaring me out of my mind.
Should we just turn off the t.v??
Oh, and at least take weekends off from the news. Bad news is in and it's killing the rest of us. It was so great when the plane went down in the Hudson (no, not that the plane went down) because it was such a great story and not doom and gloom business as usual these days.
Don't attack me - I'm not happy the plane went down. I'm happy all were safe and there was good news for a change. AND it lasted for a whole day and a half!!

I'm also seeing a trend lately with my vendors and associates... "New Mailing Addresses". My business is very small - I don't understand how the large companies in my industry are staying afloat? I'm sure come springtime...the rumors will begin to fly as to who survived the winter and who didn't.
