My two sons have been invited to my niece's sweet 16 party next week. It is in a hotel in Hackettstown. What is an appropriate monetary gift ? thanks

When I turned sweet 16 my dad asked me if I thought I could take him on.

I said "sure".

I was wrong.

Anyway, I'd say 50-100 dollars would be fine.

$50 is good or a gift card to a store she likes.

$50 or a gift card I agree with..........I personally think its really a bit much having a birthday at a hotel or anywhere for that matter cause girls turned 16....I mean really do you see boys having it? Another gimmick for Hallmark to cash in if you ask me.

LOL!!!! My niece had her Sweet 16 last summer at some ritzy catering hall. I gave her $150 (she's my only niece and I have no nephews) and my parents acted like I was cheap. They gave her $300. These Sweet 16s are really getting out of control....it was like a wedding. When I turned 16, I had a pizza party at home with some friends and relatives. $50 should be enough.

I totally agree Calico...........just buy her a key chain for the car she will probably get from Mom and Dad or the money she earns from that hard earmed milestone of 16! Go figure!!

yea it really is quite a scam they have going here... Girls probably cost twice as much $ to raise then boys and now you have to throw them an elaborate sweet 16
