Default let me know how this goes for you...

My husband and i are in a similar situation. He just got a new job and is also researching the commute from the Princeton area to Wall Street. So far it seems that parking is extemely limited at the Princeton Jct. Station. He called the West Windsor Parking Authority (they run the parking lots at Princeton Jct.) and they said the wait for a space was about 5 years. I believe there are also daily parking spaces, but they fill up by 6:20 a.m. from what i've heard. My husband was thinking of just driving to New Brunwick everyday and taking the train from there, but that's a 30 minute drive plus $12 a day for parking. So now we are looking into buses from the Princeton/New Brunswick area or the possiblity of moving within walking distance of a train station. I'll keep you posted on our research...

I finally know where I am going to work - it is going to be at 48th and Park Ave. I can see one-hour trains from Princeton Junction to NY Penn Station - any ideas on good ways to get to Grand Central (from Princeton/Princeton Jn)?

I agree with some of the posts being off-topic.

I am the OP. We don't have kids. For what it is worth - our current situation is worse than anything we would be able put together in NYC/NJ. We work in cities 3 hours apart, and therefore maintain two apartments. We meet Friday evenings till Monday mornings, week after week. We made the move to NYC because we thought my spouse could move into their NYC offices - but they ran out of space at the last moment.

The whole reason for my post asking for help was that we want to avoid maintaining two apartments. Even if one of us goes through a killer commute, it would be worthwhile because we can sleep under the same roof - and not postpone that another few months till my spouse can move into their NYC offices.

So, unlike what the previous posters think - the commute is, to us, an alternative to living in two apartments.

Default How crowded are the trains from Princeton to NYC?

My wife and I will be in the same situation as OP. We're planning to move to Princeton this summer with me commuting to work in Manhattan on NJ Transit's NE Corridor line. Can someone tell me how crowded the trains are during morning rush hour? Will there still be empty seats on the express trains if I get on at Princeton Junction?

i was on 47th and park for a few years
it was nj into penn ,nyc subway to 42nd and then the shuttle train to grand central and walk from there

you could avoid the shuttle by taking the c or e (don't remember which one)
from penn to 50th and 3rd ave and walk from there

Thanks Brian. I see that NY Penn Station to 47th and Park is less than 1.5mi on Google Maps. Maybe I will just run/walk - probably a 10 minute run. What do you think? I mean, 50th and 3rd is about a mile too, so I don't save much.

i used to walk in the summer (about a 15 minute to 1 hr walk)depended on whether or not i was thirsty (hey i'm irish) 50th and 3rd ave would only be a couple of minutes walk for you it is 3rd ave is 1 block down from park ave
