I hear Hoboken has great nightlife for young people. Does anyone know of any other places that have good nightlife in state? I usually end up heading into the city, I wanted to know if there was anywhere in state, specifically North Jersey.

Back in the day when I went out in NJ at night, it went something like this--every night there is a designated bar that is "the place" to go to and everyone shows up at the right place on the right night and bam there is some kind of a scene. This was in Morris/Essex/Union county. Yes, you crossed county lines. So you have to either be friends with someone who knows where and when to go (usually someone who works in the restaurant biz is up to date), or be astute enough to ask the right stranger where to go on Thursday night (for example).

alright, so i'll ask the females on campus, hopefully if i get into college. preferably in South Orange or Montclair. you mentioned some nice towns in both of those areas. Montclair, nightlife in Newark. is there anything better closer to South Orange than in Newark? probably not, right? that's the good thing about South Orange, you got the train that you take directly into the city. That is, of course, if you don't want to engage yourself into the nightlife of Newark which Newarkbomb doesn't suggest. It's probably mediocor at best.

Here are the nightlife hubs in NJ:

- Hoboken and Jersey City - pubs, clubs, bars, lounges
- Central Jersey Shore (mainly Pt. Pleasant, Belmar, Manasquan, Seaside Heights) - beach bars and beach clubs
- Atlantic City
- Morristown
- Red Bank
- New Brunswick (mostly college bars, but also some good bars and lounges downtown

There may be some hubs in South Jersey, but not to my knowledge.

Right, I forgot about Seaside, they have some clubs/bars there. And New Brunswick too. I'm not sure about AC and I'll have to check out Red Bank, but those are a trek south. Anyone know anything about Sayreville? And what is there exactly in Montclair? College scene or what?

There are a lot of clubs in the Sayreville/South Amboy area...none of which I've ever gone to (or wanted to go to). I think that those clubs are mainly filled with folks from Staten Island. Or at least that's how I imagine them.
