We've driven Shades of Death Rd, and checked out Ghost Lake (visible from one direction, disappears going north). We were expecting it to seem spooky, but mostly it was sod farms. The kids thought it was cool though.

I live in the Pine Barrens. My Aunt says she has seen plenty of white deer although not sure about white deer that "appear" and "disappear" during danger according to Weird NJ.

Also, in the 1970s, my sister and I were chased by dogs with red eyes. I think these dogs lived with some hermit on the other side of this pond in the woods. The two dogs came after us and even outran us but did not attack us. Just stared at us with those red eyes and let us keep running. They were big husky dogs like a German Shepard-wolf mix.

A tree that was carved into a castle was in one of the Weird NJ magazines; the tree was around the corner from my house. A couple of months ago, the tree rotted and it was removed.

Default Adolf Hitler's toilet, in Florence NJ

Sight of the Week: Sep 7-13, 2009, Roadside America

I had to revive this thread for this story. It's not on the Weird NJ website, however, it is just as strange. Evidently, it's still functional.

- Some creepy insane assylum in Middletown, I believe

These were all quite a few years ago...was mainly in college.
The people in "Midgetville" are getting pretty pissed off at having gawkers come into their neighborhood looking for midgets. There was an incident last year where someone threw a paint balloon from their car at a big guy standing on the lawn. He jumped in his truck and chased them down and called the cops on his way--when he caught up to them it was two teenage girls.
