I wonder what gives with these prices. Sears is up next.
Pep Boys or Sam's Club might be good options for you as well.

Define "too much" of money. I think you should be able to find 4 new cheap tires for $300 installed.

I agree! My X and I always got our tires there. Easy to pass, so go slow!

Also try Discount Tire Zone - Low prices on tires from From Falken, Bridgestone, Cooper, Fuzion, Nankang, Firestone, and Dayton , they are cheaper than Tirerack and directbuytire IMO.

There is a chain in New York that used to advertise "buy 1 get 3 free". I used to go there and get 4 new tires installed for $200 or less. The only thing is its a bit of a ride, but if you're out there already passing by it's a deal. I don't think they advertise like that anymore but the prices are still decent. I think I picked up a set of Falkens which rode extremely well installed for about $200.

I will say that when I was about 17 or 18, many decades ago, I used to go through the tires that a place like Sears would pile up for recycling and many times people buy a new set of four while they may only need 2 or 3 tires, so I would find quite good tires for free and bring them to my friends gas station to mount. Many tire dealers also do this, they sell used tires installed for half price or less if you want to go that route.
