He's probably going to end up sick in the head as he grows older. They she have a close eye on this kid. Poor woman was 8 months pregnant?? The baby could of probably made it out alive if they found her in time... What a shame. one bullet, two lives gone.

Absolutely. The guns should be kept in a cabinet or safe that is locked with the key stored in an area that only adults have access to. The ammo is to be stored separately and apart from the guns. Under no circumstances should any gun ever be stored with ammunition loaded.

Geeze....at 11 he just shot someone in the head !!! How much sicker can you get ? Whats worse is it could have all been avoided if they guns were locked up as required......just another case of an irresponsible hunter and gun owner leaving his loaded guns laying around for his kids to find and "play" with. I'm sorry.....11 year olds don't need to know how to hunt or own their own "personalized" guns. This guy should be tried in connection with this murder as an accessory !!!

I agree that the father/gunowner should have some responsiblity in this. There's no way a gun should be accessible to a child. My husband is a hunter and a collector and there's no way any would fall into the hands of our kids. They don't even know where the keys are. We've never let one of our kids even touch one of the guns. There's just no need for it. They don't hunt.

I think it's ok for a dad to take his son hunting, not a problem, but respect must also be a part of the teaching; respect for the sport and the weapons are necessary.

This is just terrible......

Just exactly how do you teach your son to respect a "sport" that requires inflicting an excruciatingly painful death on an unsuspecting animal ?...based upon what this child did is this something we really want to be teaching our children....at any age ? Perhaps we might want to reevaluate our "values" on this issue ?

It is very possible to teach a child respect for the sport. I'm am NOT for hunting, however, I do have a husband that hunts and comes from a large family of hunters.
I have watched over the years how they are taught. They are taught respect for the environment as well as NOT to wound an animal when shooting. I agree with you that shooting an unsuspecting animal with a high powered firearm and scope is just wrong.
I have had to accept that there are cultures within our culture that see it as a sport. If it is done the way I see it done, then there is respect taught.
What this child did has nothing to do with hunting and it is obvious that no respect for the weapon was ever taught as well.
