I just heard for the next 30 days there is a speeding ticket frenzy going on even if you are 5 mph over the speed limit! to pay for the state troopers million dollar overtime checks that they worked for!!.

One of the radio stations said they are everywhere and anywhere in Jersey! the fine Garden State we live in...

I happened to see them all over the place while on the GSP this weekend..seemed like every exit...no wonder....!

I don't know if it's true or not, but last friday I must've seen at least 15 cops on route 80 and they had at least 7 or 8 cars pulled over.

My future brother-in-law came up from Margate this weekend and he said the Parkway was loaded with cops on both Friday night and yesterday afternoon.

I call it Spring Training for Summer. The first pre-season "game" is tomorrow, Fat Tuesday. Then you have St. Patrick's Day. The first regular season game of "Catch the Speeders/Drunks" is a four-day fest starting May 22.

Ohhhh, that explains why I saw 6 police cars in 30 minutes, on 195 South towards the shore.

We were "back home" in NJ the weekend of Feb 14th. On the morning of Sun the 15th, we saw numerous people on both sides of the turnpike and parkway pulled over. There were a lot of troopers out. This continued through NY and CT- we saw so many troopers and people pulled over-more than we remember ever seeing- and we do this drive a lot.

Oh my goodness- were they out there.
We had a family get together and this topic actually came up. My family came from Eliz, Middletown, Howell, etc. towards Monroe/Helmetta area. We all noticed it and mentioned it in our many conversations. I know I was talking about it on the way down with the family friend I was driving.

This is ridiculous with the price that we already pay for living here and the way our economy is. Who do they think is paying these tickets? This is one of the reasons I avoid the parkway and turnpike on a regular basis. I very rarely go on there because it's another expense. If I do- I go through the free areas (Woodbridge to Union (right before tolls) and then I get off. They're not getting any more of my money if I can help it.

They seem to be all over the towns too lately. I have been seeing a lot of people getting tickets in Livingston and Florham Park in the last few weeks. Tax revenues must really be down.

If tax revenues are really down, wouldn't the more decent thing to do be to raise those taxes, rather than attempting to partially balance the budget on the backs of out of town motorists?

Additionally, a law is a law. The police officer is an employee. This is not where the fault should be placed. If you are riding above the speed limit, then you are breaking the law, and the police officer is there to enforce it. However, if 85% of the traffic is riding 5 mph above the speed limit, then the speed limit should be raised IMO.
