I work in Jersey City and a lot of these kids have never been out of this city. we want to go on a field trip to some type of park or nature center where they can experience nature and explore, but yet still be safe and somewhat enclosed so they don't all get lost on the field trip. Any ideas?? They are only 4 years old.
how about abma farms in wyckoff. its not too far from you, they have a petting zoo and it feels like a completely different world nature wise than JC...

This would be a great trip! I would take them on a day they do the tour with you...the kids will love it..and it's pretty cheap as well
Land of Make Beleive, Turtleback zoo, maybe one of those pick your own pumpkin farms, Waterloo village (Altho they may be too young for that one) There used to be a place near Sandy Hook that was a nature reserve. We took my cousins kid maybe 10 years ago, there was a reptile room where the kids could hold a snake or touch a hissing beetle or have a catapiller crawl on their hand etc...
We're going to a pumpkin farm this month so they'll be able to experience a different environment and they will have fun picking pumpkins.
What I really want is a place where they can explore trees in a heavily wooded area, body of water(small waterfall or a brook, walk on a trail, see the leaves all over the ground in the beautiful fall colors, collect some rocks for our class, see birds or other animals, etc. Finally there has to be a place where we can have a class picnic with tables and some bathrooms.
