Hi,

I am new to the US. And I've found an apartment at Princeton. Please guide me as to how I can commute from Princeton to New York city for work everyday? How long will it take and what is the shortest possible way to commute.

Thanks in advance.

You're best off going to Exit 8A of the NJ Turnpike to the Park & Ride and catching the bus. There is no parking at the train station at Princeton Junction without a permit and there are approximately 5200 people ahead of you in line waiting for a permit (they're estimating it's a three year + wait). Unless you can have someone drop you off, the bus is your best bet.

You can also take the "Dinky" from the station in Princeton to the Princeton Junction train station. Depending on where you are going in NYC the trip will be 1 1/4-1 1/2 hours.

But parking is still a problem, unless you're relatively near the train station. The train takes a little over an hour to get to Penn Station.

Why Princeton if you work in Manhattan if you don't mind me asking? Not the most convenient choice.

Best bet is to take the "dinky" from Princeton to Princeton Junction if you are close enough to get to the Dinky from where you live in Princeton (if not maybe get a bike - parking is hard to come by). Daily parking does exist at Princeton Junction but it's $4 a day (you pay a machine and your spot is yours for 24 hours) and you have to get there early in the morning. Monthly pass will cost you $360 from Princeton or $330 from Princeton Junction. An express trian from Princeton Junction will get to you to NYC in little under an hour and there are plenty of express trains at peak commute times. Parking at the train station kills everyone in this area! Good luck.

Are you assocaited with Princeton University in any way? If so let me know and I can give you some specific advice to help with parking.

Best bet would be to take the train. Other than that, the commute by car could be a bit much, especially if you hit traffic.

All of my colleagues at work SWEAR by the Park & Ride at the NJ Turnpike Exit 8A...they say it's cheaper, more reliable and more convenient than the train.

I, too, think it's odd that you're working in Manhattan but choosing to live in Princeton...
