Live in south jersey and want to go to washington dc.......then go to williamsburg va from there..........looking to travel amtrak..........any ideas would be helpful........thanks......

Train is going to be dicey unless you are close to a train station on the NE Corridor. I'd suggest checking the schedules on Amtrak.com Both the Northeast Regional (formerly Metroliner) and Acela stop at the 30th Street Station in Philadelphia so that may be an option. However, the amount of time can be a hassle unless you are planning to make it a photographic outing.
Trains to DC are no problem from NJ, if you're close to the Northeast Corridor.
Trains to Williamsburg exist, but the timetable is at best a guess. Outside the Northeast Corridor (DC to Boston) Amtrak runs on rails which it doesn't own. Freight railroads (CSX, Norfolk Southern, etc) own the rails, and Amtrak trains take a back seat. If there are no freight trains going through at the time you're traveling, you'll make great time on your trip to Williamsburg. BUT, you could be sitting for 3 hours east of Richmond waiting for a 10 mph CSX train to make it up from Newport News.
