I'm very new to city data and I'm excited about the state that I live and work in. I was born in raised in Queens New York I left when I was 17 to New Jersey. As soon as I settled in I became so a custom to the cheaper gas, I vowed never to live anywhere I have to pay a high a gas price and get out of my car to pump it! Call me lazy but I love it. Tell me how you feel the next time you get gas? When you have to get out of your car pay the clerk, walk back to your car to pump your gas and you get less gas for your money!
Cheap gas???? Where? The price at the pump is directly affected by the state tax per gallon. Each state has a different rate in which they tax it. The federal tax per gallon remains the same in all states.
NJ is tied with Florida and Wyoming for the cheapest tax. Technically Georgia charges much less but you pay sales tax at the register on your gas purchase, meaning if you purchase $10 in gas you will pay $10.70 when you pay for it. Pennsylvania pays the highest gas tax yet NJ and PA both pay on average $1.74 so go figure.
The fact that New Jersey and Oregon are the only 2 states that forbid the consumer from pumping their own gas has little affect on the price at the pump despite what the media hounds tell you. Even if so, how come other states who do not have to pay people to pump gas charge just about the same price for gas? Such as NJ vs PA ?
nj has among the lowest fuel tax in the country and certainly not lowest pump prices.
as i've grown older i am happy to let someone pump it for me. i only get upset when they put GAS in my DIESEL car, or when I tell them FILL IT UP CREDIT, DIESEL and then after the fact they tell me they don't accept CC's even though their sign says CASH PRICE 2.49 CREDIT PRICE 2.49....
Same here. It saves time. I absolutely HATE sitting in my car waiting for one attendant to service 10 other cars while the my tank is already filled. Half the time I end up getting out of my car and doing it myself anyway. Then, of course, they come running over.
And do people really tip gas station attendants?? I've never heard of such a thing!
