Hi,
I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this has been discussed. I'm in or was in the telecomm business and it was crashing even before things went south for many other industries. Anyway, during my last spate of unemployment, I applied for a grant. The group that runs it is called "One-Stop Career Center." You can find the particular office that you should go to based on where you live in NJ. I got a grant to get a certification in networking.
During the time I was in school, I continued to get my UE check and was not required to look for work. I can't remember if I had to call in every two weeks but it was a good use of my time and their money.
These days, it takes longer because things are much worse but a friend of mine who is out of work just got his grant but I don't know when he's starting school. You can probably find info

When I went to my orientation class the FIRST thing they tell you is that is you want a grant to go into computers as a career change - don't bother - you won't get it. Made me feel "great." They let me do it because I'm already in the industry.
Just thought someone might want to know about this.
Good luck all.
