We are a family with a small child interested in buying a home in Hudson county in the $500,000-$700,000 range. We currently live in Jersey City, but do not want a high rise, so Newport/Waterfront JC is out. Husband works in midtown, wife drives to Parsippany for work. We need to be near public transit for husband to get to work in NYC. Also, need to be near public transit to/from JC for grandparents to watch child while parents work. Any thoughts on which communities fit the bill? Weehawken? Hoboken? Union City? How safe are the communities? How is the commute? Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks!

I guess you want to leave JC? The Heights area has a number of well-rated schools. Commute to midtown NYC is very easy.

what about Secaucus? they got some decent homes in that town. it's the most suburban area in Hudson county, and you've got access to Route 3 which if you take west, you'll hit 46 and that'll take you right to Parsipanny. Pretty easy access to Midtown as well. It's a safe community. You're only problem might be getting public transit to JC. I'm not sure how convenient that is from Secaucus. That's the only thing I can't fill you in on.

NJT 2 bus goes from Secaucus to Journal Square look at NJtransit.com under bus schedules to see it could work for you to get it

other option is to from Secaucus Jct train station is to take a trian to Hoboken and then the light rail or Path train to where you need to go

the 2 commutes/locations you stipulate are diametrically opposed, so it'll be a tall order to satisfy all your points.

Weehawken would be your best bet, the Woodcliff section of North Bergen being a close second.
