Has anyone else received a letter of increase?

Apparently, the request was filed on Mar 31st, with the NJ Dept. of Banking and Insurance and awaits approval from same.
Rate change, if approved would not go into effect before Oct 1, 2009, an increase would be included in your renewal.
Rates will effect homeowners, tenants, and condominiums.

When is the next Tea Party?

State Farm? I got the same letter. 13% is nothing compared to those poor condo folks - they are asking for a 33% increase on them. I have a feeling that the dept. of Banking and Ins. will deny their request. They recently agreed to let homeowner's ins. companies add a pollution exclusion to their residential policies... this alone should have saved them billions!

That's right, forgot to mention the condo owners, that's a major increase.
Wonder if we'll have to shop around for homeowner's insurance now?

I wouldn't do that... staying with the same company for years makes a huge difference if you ever have to file a claim. They tend to do everything possible to reject or deny claims for those who are new clients. I may send a letter to the dept of banking and ins. recommedning that they deny State Farms request. They tried this years ago with auto ins. remember and the State turned them down - State Farm was threatening to leave NJ! It's greed in my opinion... everyone wants to make the same profits that they were making 5 yrs ago... we all have to bite the bullet until this recession ends.. State Farm included!
