You would love the Adirondacks, try looking in towns on Lake George, such as Diamond Point, Hague, or Bolton Landing and head North

Agree, the Adirondacks is a fraction of the cost of NJ as long as you don't try to use it full time. But the whole notion is supect. People think they want something like that, buy it, then end up hating it and have trouble selling because nobody else wants it. Or they buy it and never use it.

That depends on the person and the area, my husband would go up to our summer home (Adirondacks) every weekend, if he could, I love it there but it is difficult because I work weekends. My kids didn't like it when they were younger, now they have families, they go every chance they get. they don't want me to sell it, so eventually we will probably retire there. More and more people are moving up to the Lake George area. I couldn't believe the homes they were building on the Lake and what they are asking.
We use our home only in the summer now (opening it in May and closing in October) because of the heating oil, before prices went crazy, we had it opened all year round.

this is just an idea at this point. I honestly have no idea what this would cost or where to even begin looking.

Im not even looking for a "vacation home". yea like the guy said a cabin like the unabomber had would be fine lol. take a couple ATVs out there and do some hunting and fishing you know?

If you like fishing then avoid the Adirondack Park area......I fished many of those lakes for close to 30 years and found that many are just about dead from acid rain !!!

Lake George is becoming pretty expensive. I own land about 10 miles east of there and while that is still very cheap, I am hoping more people buy off the lake and land in general starts to increase in value. I like it up there, would be a very inexpensive retirement location if you could deal with the slow pace and insane weather.
