Elle, not sure what kind of severance package you've got, but once you're eligible for unemployment make sure you immediately put down the Kettle One and complete the paperwork ... these things can sometimes take a while to process so you want our efficient state govt employees to get to work on it right away ...

E, I don't know how NJ workds but here you can apply for unemploymet on line. It beats waiting in line and is something to look into.

so very sorry you were laid off (or as they say here in the UK, made redundant). I have been through it myself. It was the best thing that ever could have happened to me at the time and hopefully it will be for you as well (a catalyst to change careers, slow down, whatever you need).
