There really are no "urban" areas in the sections you mentioned. maybe slightly more populated suburbs. but even trenton isnt much of a city. if you want urban....you would have to go to philly. that all depends on what your definition of urban is.
Even if you live in Jersey work in Philly, you pay city wage tax, at a reduced rate, but the good news is you shouldn't have to pay any state income tax since you can offset it against "taxes paid to other jurisdictions"
Thanks to everyone for your advice. We came out and found a place in Newtown borough. It's a bit tougher if my husband commutes to Philly as it's not right near the train, but we like that it has a true town center, we can walk to town, and we are close to the state park. Thanks again for all of your help.

As I am sitting in Newtown right now, I would say it's a pretty good choice.
