A strong vote for Short Hills here---and for any of the towns surrounding due to the proximity of the Midtown Direct train. The schools in Millburn Twshp (where Short Hills is located) are fantastic. Great community, very pretty....
thread mentions some great places! I agree that if money is not an issue and you like city living, NYC would be a great cultural opportunity for the whole family. I live in Cherry Hill and it's great but too far for the comute. I'm originally from Westchester, NY and recommend Pelham or Bronxville. You'll find beautiful homes, great schools, and an easy comute via car or rail to NYC.
If you are loking to be under an hour from NYC Short Hills/Millburn, Chatham or Westfield are all great choices. All have town centers with outdoor shopping and a lot of restaurants as well as train stations to the city. Millburn train station goes direct to the city and is about a 40 minute train ride. The schools are top rated in the state and there is a reservation where you can walk around. It is a great choice!
We are thinking on moving closer to Manhattan, currently we live upstate NY but is too far from the city.
We are a family of three, middle class...looking for rent or maybe buy, depends...any suggestions of towns close to Manhattan that aren't that expensive but still good school district?
