I am an interior designer, single and in my mid-fifties, thinking of relocating to NJ from East Hampton, where I have lived for 15 years. I have 2 showdogs so I prefer a more rural area (as opposed to suburban) so I can get a smaller house with 1-2 acres for the dogs to run, but would like to be able to get to a small city/town within 30 minutes max. Since much of my work is in commercial and healthcare design, I would like to be able to access Philadelphia and NYC. Any suggestions?
My first thought was Hunterdon County...it's more rural but has larger towns in it. It's about equidistant between NYC and Philly (maybe 90-120 minutes to either). Southeastern Burlington County is a bit rural, relatively close to Philly but further from NYC, and has larger towns like Moorestown and is close to Cherry Hill in Camden County. There's really nothing too rural close to NYC that I can think of right now. Also some parts of Monmouth County, like Colt's Neck, Holmdel, Cream Ridge, and Upper Freehold...that would be another ideal choice, also 90-120 minutes to Philly/NYC and has rural sections where acreage is common; plenty of decent sized towns in the area.
