Got home today and to my surprise a big tree limb greets me near the driveway. Apparently, a limb of a tall tree near the curb fell down due to the high wind, i guess.

I live in a community with a Howeowner Association and management office, however, I live in the Single Family Home section of the community in which I have to maintain my lawn and stuff.

Do you think the management office will take care of it?
If not, what about the township's Public Works department?

And if it is really my responsibility, what kind of people should I call and pay to remove it.

Oh, I live in Manalapan, Monmouth County, BTW.

Call your HOA and find out the details.

Yup, the HOA can tell you the policy. Ordinarily, if the tree is on your property, it's your responsibility no matter where if falls.

I would check first with your HOA. If they pass the buck, I'd go look stuff up on my town website. In my town, the Public Works Dept./Division of Construction & Maintenance is responsible for situations like yours. Actually, I had to call them the other day for a similar situation and they wrote down my info and told me they'd send someone in 2 days.

Wait, I looked up your town website myself. Here's your info:

Manalapan Township Shade Tree

I love how the state charges you real estate taxes because it's "their property" but if a tree falls on it, now it's "your property"
