I recently lost a family member that used to accompany my family to Lake Worth and it got me thinking about it. I'm not sure what part of Jersey it's located but I remember there was a large water tower nearby. Does anyone know what town it's in and is it still in operation? I'm thinking of taking a ride over for old times sake. Thanks for your help.
a quick google search reveals that it's located in clementon, which is in camden county.
i've never been there (nor had i ever heard of it, to be honest), but here's what i found online:
New Jersey, Lake Worth, NJ: The Trust for Public Land (http://www.tpl.org/tier3_cd.cfm?content_item_id=5501&folder_id=629 - broken link) Lake Worth Fishing in Camden County, New Jersey

"Longtime residents of Camden County remember summer days at Lake Worth - a private bathing beach from the 1920s to 1989. Once popular destination for swimming, picnicking, and fishing, the lake was drained and the park had fallen into disrepair. In the summer of 2001, an effort began to revive the park, creating one link in the River to Bay Greenway, a network of public open space that will some day connect Philadelphia with New Jersey's Barnegat Bay. This visionary initiative received lead funding from the William Penn Foundation. TPL is partnering with several New Jersey townships and counties to make the greenway and Lake Worth revival a reality. In March of 2005, TPL created an addition to Lake Worth with the purchase of nine more acres. Lake Worth represents the second project completed as part of the River to Bay Greenway, and when fully restored it will be become the 20th park in the Camden County park system."
As a child growing up each summer my family went to Lake Worth to spend wonderful days swimming, sunbathing, and barbecuing. We used to try to arrive early to get a good parking spot (near the beach) wihtin the pine trees. I loved how the lake had a sandy bottom in the swimming area, enjoyed ice cream treats from the concession stand, and playing horseshoes in the woods.
It was a fabulous place for families to spend the day and I hope it does get restored.
It's funny how there are so many Florida names in Jersey--and not names that you find everywhere (like Springfield): Lake Worth, Manalapan, Margate, Clermont . . . there are quite a few others. New Jersey even has a Miami Beach.
Anyway, at first I figured this thread was going to be about Lake Worth, Florida. I'd never heard of Lake Worth in New Jersey before.
Lake worth was a great place to
Go for the day. Sliding board in the water, diving board, poles in the middle of the water where I was never allowed past, boat rides at the end and a fantastic time fir all
