...Thinking about trying the RV vacation in NJ (1st timer) and would like to hear about your experience if you have ever RV camped in NJ.
Since this would be our 1st time out w/ a RV we wanted to take baby steps & stay fairly close to home....just in case I need to turn her around & head back to my Castle.
Have you camped in Cape May NJ area?
What's the best place to camp in NJ & why? Any amenities ie pool?
What's the best RV rental place in NJ ?
Prices for Class C 28 ft?
Thanks for your input.

Yes there are many nice campgrounds in Cape May. Big Timber Lake, Seashore, Driftwood, Avalon, just to name a few. In season, they can be expensive and some require 3 nights minimum stay. Check out their websites for details.

Northern NJ also has some nice campgrounds; Driftstone on the Delaware, Triplebrook, and a few others in Sussex county. Best bet is to stop at a rest area and pick up a NJ camping guide. That will give you what each place has, its amenities, rates, etc.

Average price is probably around $40-45 per night with hookups.

Never rented an RV, but there is El Monte, Cruise America and also check some RV dealers, as they also have rentals but don't advertise as much.

Good luck

Not sure what happened to my last post but here goes again:

We just bought our trailer last year and have camped 3 times down the Jersey shore. I absolutely love it. We have stayed at Big Timber twice (Cape May Courthouse) and at Beachcomber once (in the off season).

I love Big Timber b/c it is a great campground w/ a pool and swimming lake, fishing lake, everything is close yet the sites are very spacious and semi-private. You are only 5 minutes away from Avalon, which by far is my favorite beach. Lots of free parking, bathroom in the parking lot w/ a foot shower to clean off b4 heading home, very small boardwalk w/ only a handful of shops, and short walk from the boards to the water. You will need a beach tag for anyone over 12 y/o but if you stay at Big Timber you can rent it for $1/day.

I would highly recommend camping in a trailer already on-site if it's your first time. It will allow you to have another car (what you drove down in) and not have to level and hook up the camper when you arrive, or unhook, rehook and relevel if you want to leave and come back.
Campgrounds around Big Timber are Avalon Campground, Driftwood RV and Outdoor World. I can't speak for these as I've never stayed there but I think you can rent an on-site trailer at Outdoor World. Big Timber has some more house-like park models for rent but not sure if you can rent for just a week.

Big Timber is 15 mins from Wildwood, 20 mins from Cape May and 10 mins from Ocean City if you want to head that way, so basically in the middle of everything.

We are going to stay at Lake Laurie when we go down the end of June for Beach Blast (soccer tournament). Paying $150 to stay for the entire weekend (all day Fri, Sat and Sun) whereas some of the other parents on the team are paying $250/night to stay in a hotel/motel.
