from The Hudson Reporter :

will Rep. Albio Sires become the first Lieutenant Gov. in the state of NJ ?

it appears that Sires would get support from the diverse political factions in Hudson County if he decided to do it.

NJ voters will get to pick a Lt. Gov. for the first time this year.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healey would likely favor the move because it would free up the House of Representatives seat in order that a Jersey City person might get it.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker would likely back the move as well, because Sires is unlikely to use it as a springboard for a run for Gov., and would not challenge Booker, who apparently wants to seek the governorship himself.

Southern NJ political boss George Norcross would also likely support Sires, since Norcross was instrumental in getting Sires named as Assembly Speaker in 2001 (despite a move to have then-Assemblyman Joseph Doria get the seat).

Is this good news?

When you mentioned political boss and kingmaker Norcross, the first thing that comes to mind is "another department of loyal, taxpayer funded political hacks".

As far as creating this new position, what's in it for the private sector citizens of NJ (including those in the suburban hinterlands)?

actually, NJ had been one of the few states in the union not to have a Lt. Gov.

I'm aware of that.

That doesn't answer any of my questions with regards to the OP.

Given that, knowing what I know about the NJ political class, there's nothing in the Lt Gov thing for the pvt sector citizens of NJ that I can see.

Just another boondoggle.
