It may be built into the cost, but in my experience, gas here is still cheaper at full-serve stations than it is at self-serve stations in other states.
That is very true, only Texas is usually cheaper than New Jersey. New Jersey is usually the second cheapest state to purchase gas.
Here is the main issue. If I believed for a second that they would keep the same price for full serve and lower the price for self serve, I would be all for it, but life experience a little bit of common sense tells me otherwise. The price you see NOW would be the price for self serve and there would be a premium for full serve, regardless of the rhetoric to the contrary.
Full-service stations add costs to the gas stations, you've got to pay someone to pump it. So there's no free lunch.

Yes, but what I am trying to make clear is that the extra money it costs for full service will turn into extra profits for the gas stations rather than savings to the consumer.
I think full service stations are great, it creates a fountain of jobs.
I'd rephrase that to "it used to create a fountain of jobs". Go back 15-20 years, and most of the folks pumping gas were high school kids, etc., looking to make some extra money, or the mechanics that worked in the service station (I did it when I was in college). Nowadays, 95% of the attendants barely speak English, and are usually relatives of the foreigners who own the stations- you can't just walk in and apply for the jobs anymore.

Would those "fountain of jobs" pumping gas be part of the great job/career opportunites continually listed as a reason to move to New Jersey ? If a job springs forth from a fountain I'm expecting more than a gas pump attendant...........otherwise I'm getting a new fountain !!!

At what cost? Those are the jobs you do see. What you don't see are the additional jobs that are not created due to people not having more control over their money.
No, not whatever the reason. It seemed as though you were implying that these prices had anything to do with full/self serve. It's because of taxes, which are irrelevant to this discussion.
