Rapid heavy winds, out of nowhere. Then like 2 hrs later everything looked golden orange/red. Strangest thing, I thought it was great. I should've took pictures.
I was in Essex County too and it was very odd. Humid and cloudy, followed by heavy thunder showers, followed by dry and sunny with an orange sky. All in the span of no more than 3 hours.
Monmouth County & Middlesex (where they border) and all the way to Toms River was BRUTAL. Like nothing I've seen before, extremely heavy rain, so bad that you could not see the car in front of you.
The lightening was the worst part. It was crackling & flashing so close and so very rapidly. Very scary.
Overall this June has been extremely gray and rainy, well at least in northeastern NJ.
BTW, Did anybody notice the weird thunder yesterday at around 9:00 pm? It was semi-circular and golden. I have never seen thunder like that here before. Usually its white/bluish and zig-zaggy.
I saw that orange glow. It was awesome. What a crazy weather day.
