If I recall correctly, this was and has been a big discussion. Where would the deviding line be? Most of the threads do seem to be North Jersey, so what's to keep those from the south end from just starting a thread? Say Hello anyone from Brick, TR, Bayville etc.
that may work. JMO
A lot of threads do seem to apply to areas within commuting distance of NY or Jersey City so others may feel left out. But people from other parts of the country visit this website for advice and it would be easier for them to have one NJ state forum.
The disagreement in this very thread about dividing lines is one of a bazillion reasons it makes no sense to divide the forum. And imagine the holy hell some poor relocating shlub would encounter if he..GOD FORBID...posts in the wrong forum.
Isn't New Jersey the third smallest state? (After Rhode Island and Delaware; possibly Connecticut) It doesn't make sense to divide, in my opinion. Most folks from North Jersey have experience in South Jersey from regularly going down the shore, visiting family, etc. And the question of Central Jersey would divide the user base. Most issues affect the state as a whole, and as a resident, I don't think of South Jersey as a "different world". I'm genuinely interested in what's going on all through the state, from Sussex to Cape May.

Most people from North Jersey think Sea Side Hights and Toms River are South Jersey. Most people from South Jersey think those places are North, and the residents say it's central. From what I've seen dorming in North Jersey, most people in North Jersey don't realize that there's paces between the shore, Philly, A.C., Wildwood, and Cape May. I actually met a guy from North Jersey who had never herd of Cape May, but been to Wildwood. I couldn't believe it.
Overall I find that people in South Jersey tend to realize that there's more to North Jersey than just Newark and that people from North Jersey don't realize that there's anything in South Jersey, nor how large it actually is and could care less what happens there since they don't go past whatever exit Seaside is on the Parkway.
The area code suggestion is silly...in the near future area codes will become almost meaningless as even now you can relocate across the country and mantain your old phone number.
The north south thing doesn't work for me. There are rural and highly developed areas in both the north and southern region.
I say let's do it by county...heck there's only 21 of them. I'm in Hunterdon county.which of course presents problems with the rural/developed issue.
Let's see
"There are 21 counties in the U.S. state of New Jersey. These counties together contain 566 municipalities, or administrative entities composed of clearly defined territory; 250 boroughs, 52 cities, 15 towns, 245 townships, and 4 villages.[1]" Wikipedia
What to do ??
How about we divide it by street ?? Yeah that's it...Every street will have it's own subsection...
Of course..what about those on the "Other" side of the street...hmmm...
New Jersey should not fall into the standard, small minded, provincialism of NYC (and follow the leader: Philly).
We, as a State, culturally combat both of these places on a regular basis. For all our differences, we share the moniker of the Garden State. We are equally despised by the media in both of these markets.
Divide & Concur............................................ .........
N & S Jersey are quite different, but we are Jersey all the same.
