According to Google Transit, the quickest way is to take the #197 bus to your neighborhood (though it could be unreliable because of traffic appoaching the Lincoln Tunnel).

I think that Hawthorne will offer a quicker commute once you are on the train, but you could potentially hit more traffic going to the station.

Does anyone know the typical commute time on Wayne express buses to midtown leaving Wayne 8:00 to 8:30 am? Are these buses very crowded at this time?

How would you compare the time to Port Authority leaving at 8:00 to 8:30 am and bus crowding vs. Suffern?

Do people typically have to stand on the Wayne bus at this time?

unfortunately make sure you get to the bus before others do or else you WILL BE STANDING NO MATTER WHAT!!! The buses DO NOT originate in wayne or suffern they come from other areas before entering wayne so the bus WILL already have ppl on it. Also the suffern bus comes from orange county and places in upstate NY the train also comes from Port jervis so ppl will be on the bus reguardless!!! Or train by the time it reaches you. So try to be there 30 mins early but considering the buses run like city buses at rush hour good luck with that!!! The rail pass also lets you use all NJT buses. So if you get rail pass do NOT select suffern as an origin select boonton or wayne but for flexibility choose lincoln park as the origin as that gives you 10 zones you can use on the rail and bus. However to keep costs down try zone 9 or 8 rail pass as those let you use the 197 bus to wayne but play it safe and start with zone 9 rail pass. If you want suffern then use zone 10 lincoln park or any zone 10 station as zone 10 you gain choice between wayne or suffern and can use any NJT service but you wont be able to use the suffern bus though but there is train service. and if u dont like it use that same pass on 197. The pass works anywhere in NJ

Thanks that is some great information! Suffern seems like a terrible bus route at rush hour.

I thought the Wayne Express buses originate at either Mothers, Wayne Transit Center or Willowbrook according to NJ Transit schedule?

Some do, others originate further north like Warwick, Butler, etc., making local stops through the county. And some run local along 23 going into Wayne.

they dont at least not 197/194!!! many of these operate from other areas however 324 and 193 originate from the Park and ride but not 198 or 197 at rush hr 197 originates from ringwood or pompton lakes instead of warwick
