*Which are the good areas in Jersey City.
*Can someone say Jersey City is the "Bronx" of New Jersey with reference to crimes, pollution (including noise) and others.

much of JC is indeed like the bronx, but like the bronx it isn't 100% bad, for fairly affordable housing look in the heights or along JFK blvd. If you have a few bucks look along the hudson. unless you want to play urban pioneer the rest of town should be avoided

I agree. The Heights has some nice areas. Try to stay as close as you can to the 9th Street Light Rail stop. There are some nice houses there with an amazing view of Manhattan.

And yes, much of JC is not that great. Stay away if you can.

Although downtown is rather expensive, it would probably in general be preferable to the Heights (safer and better access to transit).

Other then Downtown or the Heights, JC can be a little dicey. You should probably especially avoid the Greenville area, where most of the serious crime in the city occurs.

Overall JC is probably a bit more like Brooklyn than the Bronx--some very nice and very pricey areas (with new buildings and nice old brownstones) close to Manhattan but also some pretty rough areas as well.

I looked at a home long Halliday street close to the light rail.
*What section of Jersey city is this?
*Should I avoid this street and or area?

It sounds like the place you are looking at is in the Communipaw area (which is part of the Lafayette section of the city).

it's certainly not the worst part of the city by any means, and there is some new development by the Liberty State Park light rail station there (which is always a good sign). But the neighborhood is still somewhat in transition and like many parts of the city it varies block by block.

Since I don't live in that section of the city it's hard to talk about that block in particular.. But I would suggest visiting during several times of day (during midday/early afternoon, during the evening like around 8pm, and then late at night around midnight if you can) to get a better feel for the neighborhood.

The nicest area of Jersey City is east of the NJ Turnpike and south of the Holland Tunnel. The areas around exchange place are the most pricey. Somewhat affordable places are available off of Christopher Columbus Dr near the turnpike. This area is accesible to the Grove St PATH station (although ti is a little bit of a hike).

All you need to know:
Paulus Hook - extremely expensive. Right on the waterfront. Best area of town probably
Newport: mixed corporate/residential. desolate at night. everything almost brand new.
Hamilton Park: nice, traditional neighborhood, old brownstones
Van Vorst Park: Same as hamilton park, only farther from transportation
Hieghts/Journal Square: marginal. some parts up-and-coming, others not so much. YMMV.
Anywhere else: don't bother.
