Hello,

I am 18 years old looking to move to the Jersey City/Hoboken area. Currently, I live down the shore in Manahawkin so i know there is a big difference in the two areas. I'm looking for a 1 bed/bath in a decent neighborhood for under $900. I know that's probably asking a lot but does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be great.

Thanks,
River

You are going to have a very difficult time finding a 1BR for under $900. I don't even think you can get a studio for less than $900 in either city without living in a bad area. Check Craigslist for apartment listings. In Jersey City avoid anything that says Greenville or Bergen/Lafayette.

You'd be much better off sharing a multi bedroom apartment.

For 900, you might be able to get a crappy apartment in Journal Square or Jersey City Heights (there are several very poorly maintained apartments in that area, and some of them are cheap).

You would be completely priced out of the more desirable areas (downtown Jersey City and Hoboken).

If you are prepared to share a 2 or 3 bedroom, you will have options in hoboken and downtown JC.
