Recently I read an article about how banks are playing around with how they post debits to your account in order to purposely cause overdrafts. I have personally experience creative banking with a national bank so I am familiar with the complaint route. If your bank really is doing something wrong they become very responsive when they know you are filing a complaint with one of the below agencies. Good luck!

If your bank is a local bank then you can contact the Dept. of Banking and Insurance.

NJ Department of Banking and Insurance - Home

If your bank is a National Bank, like BOA then you need to contact the Comptroller of the Currency Administrator of National Banks.

most likely there is a reason for whatever they are doing.

Although I have heard recently that banks are putting the largest charge first to make you overdraft more (so if you had $225 in your account, and spent $2 for milk in the morning, $5 for lunch at noon, and $250 for new tires for your car at night, they would put the $250 charge first so they can sock you with 3 seperate overdraft fees)

Yes, they have been doing that, particularly Wachovia. Makes you want to charge them a "customer fee" for being a customer. Karma wil get them.
