You asked if DUI checkpoints deterred the Taconic mom. I responded that if the Taconic mom was driving on a Friday or Saturday, she may have been stopped, but it's quite rare to hit someone on a DUI around lunchtime on a Sunday, so LE doesn't set them up around then.

Which just illustrates the ineffectiveness of the program
the bottom line is ,ppl need to be led cuz they dont use common sense
much of our tax money that is spent locally and federally will be put to better uses when we as a ppl start to use common sense instead of the "they cant tell me when i can drive or who i can talk/text to when i drive" mentality
next time anyone of your friends does do something anything illegal ,turn thier asses in and remind them that they are part of the problem

How? The Taconic mom was an extreme aberration when it comes to the normal patterns of DUI stops. Most DUIs are tagged during Thurs-Sun, at night, when people are at bars drinking.
Taconic Mom didn't even have a record, not even a DUI stop. Using the Taconic mom as an example why the DUI checkpoints are ineffective is strictly anecdotal evidence at best.
DUI laws are so hardcore in NJ compared to other states that once you get nailed for DUI, unless you have a REAL REAL REAL problem, you'll never want to get tagged for DUI again.
DUI isn't like speeding or other tax revenue stops that the LE performs. DUI Checkpoints for the most part get people who are severely breaking the law and put other people's lives at risk with hard, factual data.

You are talking about a "formal" DWI/DUI checkpoint. However anyone driving is enough probable cause to be stopped and checked. PA has stringent laws too with DWI. Whether or not she had priors is not the point. The best is not to drink and drive. Personally, I am glad the checkpoints are out there, even if they do make revenue for the state, perhaps they can save a life or a future life.

Except they don't. I would venture a guess than if the same money was used to simply put extra officers on patrol, there would be a better chance of actually nabbing drunk drivers.
How about if someone you know has had too much to drink give them a ride home, call a cab or invite them to stay over?

The point is mute, they do this at the end & beginning of every summer.
It is encouraged by the DOT and each department gets federal funds to help pay for it.
