Hi,
Is there a map online which shows whether a area is likely to have flooding problems? I'm looking at some homes near exit 8-10 on 287, I've heard closer to exit 10 has flooding issue, but not sure about 8 or 9.
Flooding is more local than just exits on the Turnpike. There are pockets of flood zones all over the state, at probably every exit. If you are interested in a house, ask for the disclosure, if they are in a flood plain, it should be on there. Of course, a lawyer can run the real check for you and you should keep a copy of that document. The flood maps I have found online are hard to understand. Of course, if you are buying a house, have a clause in the contract that if the house does end up being in a flood plain, you have the right to cancel the contract (this would happen in attorney review).
if you go to the fema website, you can put in the address of a home you are looking at and it will tell you if it's in a flood zone. also, your realtor should be able to tell you from the mls listing.
if you're looking in bound brook and south bound brook there is a good chance the home is in a flood zone. good luck!
In the eyes of Insurance companies, most of NJ is a flood zone because the state is so prone to flash floods. You can download some pretty current flood maps here though: SIS Tax Maps and Data

Do you have the link for that, where you can just plug in your address? I've tried to find that online and I could never find it, only maps that were hard to decipher.
In addition to all the responses you received - here is a caveat .. FEMA maps are not very accurate but they are the only rough guide the Insuurance companies use.
Thare is a way to determine for sure - accurately - if you ever get to that marginal situation ... you can ask for guidance then, if you so desire.
near exits 8-10 on 287.....the town of bound brook, easton ave in somerset and river rd in piscataway and bound brrok are known flood areas; however I live OFF of River Rd in Piscataway in an elevated area from River Rd that does not flood.
