well a new place in Butler on Rte 23 North just opened I havent tried it cause I personally dont care for it. I know since you love in the booneys that might be too far. Whats wrong wiley didnt the fish sticks you made last night satisfy your taste buds? lol and why do you care about the Brits if they want to know they will ask! Sorry I don't know for your area but in the town I live (Clinton in Hunterdon county) there is the best fresh fish store http://www.metroseafood.com/ which does fish and chips to beat many fish and chip shops in the UK, and I can say that without worry as I'm a Brit ) Honestly, it is really the best, freshest fish I have tasted in a long time and I highly recommend it.
The old classics are in Kearney where there used to be a very large Scottish community. There are a couple of Fish and Chips stores there on Kearney Ave., the Argyle and the Thistle, with malt vinegar too.
The have some kind of cult status, but as a Scot, I can say that I found them a little disappointing as the batter was not thick and gluey enough and they don't serve proper chips but fries. There are genuine Scots working in the Argyle and they know about the chips problem but most of the customers are now Americans of Scottish descent who don't know any better.
For fish, there are some places in Point Pleasant I really like, mostly because the fish is so fresh. Same chips/fries problem though. I like 'em real, cut from potatoes and a bit soggy.

I love chip butties. And in answer to your question, neither. I prefer rugby.
i have never seen a fish and chips place in all my years in NJ--can you believe it? the only one i have heard of is in NYC cause it was on the food network. it's called "a salt and battery"...
