I just got back from my most recent trip to NJ on my apartment search and I found some places and towns/cities I like. I got some information about some of these areas in other post, but now I want to see how they stack up against each other. The two in Harrison were the cheapest, but both were older they were decent sizes tho. One was at 531 Harrison avenue, and the other was on Cross St right across the street from the elementary school. The first is 900+g&e but negotiable and the other is 975+g&e&hw. The one in West New York was the smallest, but it was nice and it had the highest security deposit tho and with the rent being $1098+g&e and the landlord asking for a month and a half security that is a little pricey. I like how it is not far from blvd east, I think the address is 48 63rd st. And for the one in Bayonne it was the highest rent at $1275+e, but only ask for one month security. It was on west 43rd st. right in between avenue c and avenue B. Does anyone live near these addresses or know about them? Are the areas worth the rents they are asking for? Which are the safest? I saw a lot of cops when I was around the WNY one, West New York and Guttenberg police so I guess it is very well patrolled. I only was able to see the Bayonne area at night so I'm not sure how the other ones are at night.
I can only speak for Bayonne, but that location is good. You really don't have to worry about crime there.
Is flooding an issue tho because I always thought it was kinda flat when I looked at street view on Google maps then what I thought could happen did while I was there. I was there when those storms came through on Wednesday and a good bit of the city was under water and I had a hard time getting out of there. I know that storm was probably very rare, but it seems like it might flood there from time to time due to its geography.
My wife works at that Elementary School you are speaking of in Harrison. Nice area and safe in my opinion. You would find it rather quite at night, nothing major to speak of. If you need any info just let me know.

That looks like such a nice school. When I was there to see the apartment kids were getting out from what ever they had going on there and the staff members were telling all the kids they will see them in September. What grade does that school go to?

In the 25 years I lived there, flooding was never an issue. That particular area is not any more low lying than anywhere else. I'm surprised to hear that about those storms. To the best of my knowledge, flood insurance is not required anywhere in the city, which should say something, KWIM?
