I agree with you - there are all kinds of people everywhere. Do you have kids in the schools? Are you happy with the schools? I think that is our main concern, and being back in Monmouth County again. I think we would be happy in either town, just waiting to find right house. We looked at two houses on Blossom and Robin - looks like a very nice neighborhood.
Actually, Maplewood has some big houses also - we live in one. Can't compare the big houses in South Orange to Rumson's - price range is very different. True - both sets of town do share high schools.
Wow, you sound like you'll do just fine in Rumson! Good luck to you!
Just stating that Maplewood and South Orange have very nice houses - but the towns are very different from Fair Haven and Rumson - part of why moving is such a big decision. (our house is actually small compared most in Rumson!)
Anyone know how long a driving commute would be from Rumson to Jersey City (near Liberty Science Center)? I'd LOVE to move to Rumson, but wondering about the commute for my husband. Google Driving Directions has 50 miles / 1hr2min -- does that sound right? And is this a nightmare on the NJ Turnpike?
Try Shrewsbury, nice as Fairhaven and much less snobs. Little Silver beautiful too.

Roughly 45 minutes. Tough in summers on Fridays and Monday am due to all the Bennies who come down the shore. Not a bad commute at all.

Your husband had better commute by private jet or helicopter if he lives out there. The commute would be over 2hrs. Does he want to see you or his daughter on week nights ?
Did you check the school rankings ? South Orange is a pretty decent school. There are other towns with excellent schools that would be a much easier commute.

I would take Rumson/Fair Haven in a min over the other. To me it's a no brainier. Brother in-law does it every day and loves it.Takes the Ferry over to downtown.
