I am looking to commute from Jersey City to Woodbridge. Mapquest says it will take 46 minutes but I know with rush hour traffic it will take longer. Does anyone have a ballpark time for the commute? Thanks a lot.

Actually, the commute won't be that bad, since you're going against traffic- 1/2 of Woodbridge is commuting into Jersey City and NYC every morning...lol.

The hardest part will be getting out of JC and onto either the Turnpike extension or 1 & 9. Once you're on the highway, traffic shouldn't be bad at all.

If you give me an idea of where in Woodbridge you're looking to get to, and where in JC you're starting from, I can point you in the right direction for a route. I live in Woodbridge and head to JC several times a month for meetings, so I'm pretty familiar with both areas.

Default Woodbridge from Jersey City

Thank you for your reply. I will be working for Hess so I will be heading to 1 Hess Center, right off route 1. I'm not sure where in Jersey city I will be living, but it will probably be close to a subway station for access to NYC. In saying the commute isn't that bad is it safe to assume it is close to the 46 minutes I found online? Thanks again for your help.

The Hess building is actually on Route 9 southbound, so you'd be best off taking either 1 & 9 all the way from JC, or taking the Turnpike to Exit 11. The turnpike exit is about a mile south of the Hess building, so that's a viable option. Which one makes the most sense will really depend on how readily you can access one or the other from where you end up living.

In either case, I'd say you're probably in the 45 minutes max range- much shorter if you go in early. I can be from Woodbridge to the Holland Tunnel in around 25 minutes if I take the Turnpike up at 6am. Later in the morning, that ride is more like 45-1 hour, but I'm going with traffic.

Just curious- why do you want to live in JC if you're working in Woodbridge? It's one of the most expensive areas in the state to live in, since probably 90% of the population heads into Manhattan for work. There's plenty of places in and around Woodbridge that would cost a fraction of what you'll pay in JC.

it is less than 30 minutes if you zip down the turnpike, conisder moving to Woodbridge. NYC via NJ Transit isn't too much longer than the PATH from JC, and the quality of life is much better than in Woodbridge

Hess in woodbridge is less than 30 minutes from JC if you zip down the turnpike. You should consider moving to Woodbridge.

My girlfriend is working in the city so we're trying to find something that works best for the both of us. I'm getting the shorter end of the stick but I'm not sure how long I will be working in Woodbridge so my circumstances may change.

I don't think it's crazy to want to live in JC and commute to Woodbridge--the commute should be 30-35 minutes in the morning (especially if you leave before 7:30) and less than 45 on the way back.

And while Woodbridge is certainly a nice area, no way would it ever take the same amount of time to get from Woodbridge to the city as it would from JC. The PATH runs 24 hours in case you head home from the city late on a weekend night, and even when it runs a slow schedule on weekend nights every (20-30 mins) it's still as frequent as NJ Transit trains.

Not to mention that you can be in Manhatthan in 4 minutes on the PATH. The same can't be said about most areas of NJ.

So you're whipped, in other words.....lol.

Just kidding. I figured there had to be some reason you were looking at JC, and that one makes sense. The commute to Woodbridge should be a breeze.
