Are there any towns closer to Paramus which have trains that go directly to Penn station in the morning and that I can take back in the late afternoon/night? I don't want to use Secaucus it's kind of far. The help is VERY MUCH appreciated!!

Go to njtransit.com and look at the system map. It will show you every station and which routes serve that station.

Any train on the Bergen/Main or Pascack lines, which would be the ones in the towns closest to Paramus, is going to require you to switch at Secaucus to get to NY Penn. It's not that big a deal--you just have to get off one train, get to another track, and then get on the train that goes into NY Penn. Tons of people do it every day.
Don't understand it being "far". ALL of the train lines pass through Secaucus Transfer. That's its purpose for existing. And NY Penn is only a ten minute ride from Secaucus.

Yep. Bergen County won't have Midtown Direct service until after the ARC tunnel is completed next decade. You must transfer at Secaucus. The alternative is to take a bus, which many people from Bergen County do, right to the Port Authority Bus Terminal instead.

Thank you guys. Are you sure I have to switch over at Secaucus? Can I take the Oradell train to Secaucus or would it be better to drive to Secaucus and just take the train to Penn? I appreciate all the replies.

Yes, the train from Oradell goes to Secaucus.
Once upon a time there were two types of NJ Transit trains--the ones that went directly to midtown and the ones that went to Hoboken. They built Secaucus Transfer to have a central place where you could take any of the lines and switch there to any of the other lines. If I'm not mistaken Secaucus Transfer just had its tenth anniversary (It's actually called Frank Lautenberg Station.)
Now, just this year they opened a parking lot at Secaucus. It's $10 a day or $5 nights and weekends. So the choice is really yours. Just check the Pascack Valley Line schedule if you want to take the train to make sure there are trains running when you need them.

I've been commuting by train for 30 years and I work for a public transportation agency (though not NJ Transit.)
