So, while going through my mail this evening, I came across what I thought was a Summons for Jury Duty. Thrilled of course, I opened it, only to hold in my hands a 'Notification To Appear For Examination'.

It looks like I have to go take a Civil Service Test! The test is 'S0101K SPVR RCREATN'.

I am SOOOOO confused!

Ages ago, I am talking way over a year, I applied for a job with the state of NJ as a recreational therapist. Could this actually be in response to that...? Really? Over a YEAR later? At the time, the job app made no mention of a civil service test even being required. And do they just do that? Summons you to appear for a test, with no phone call to even see if, I don't know, your circumstances have changed in the last 15 months!?!?

The www.nj.gov/csc website mentioned on the summons 'for more info' is really no help. It just tells me to bring two #2 pencils and beware of inclement weather.

I tried googling the test name, but no luck. (If I have to take this test, I atleast want to kick azz on it!)

For a second I thought maybe my identity had been stolen and I rushed to check all my online credit card statements.... but all is well.

Again, I am dumbfounded. I suppose I have to wait til Monday to try to call somebody and make sense of this..... Any ideas?

If I had to take a guess: SPVR RCREATN = Supervisor Recreation

It's in less than 2 weeks!!!

That's what it sounds like to me!

I am trying to think. My ex-husband took a test for a state job once and I think he was able to get a booklet or something to study first. That was before everything was on line, but I'm sure there's a way to obtain it if it exists.

Interesting. Considering it took the state 6 months to process my amended 2007 tax return I wouldn't be surprised if they just blindly mail something out.

I know there are books available at places like Borders, B&N specifically study books for Civil Service Exams. That would be where I'd head today.

I got the same notification - a year later - for a state job I applied for. I ended up not taking the test because I got a different job.

After much research... turns out there are no 'study guides' for the test I have been assigned. Just 7 books for 'recommended reading'. God help me.
