Obrero,
First of all Montclair and South Orange are in the top 90 schools in NJ out of 316 so they are definitely not "crappy" schools and the reason why i did not compare Morristown to Chatham which is number 10 on the list is because Chatham has no diversity.
I grew up in a school system with no diversity and was subject to a great deal of racism so I don't want my children to go through a similar experience. Things have changed in 30 years but I still think that it is important to have diversity in the school system.
Does anyone know if any of the other top 100 Schools are diverse? How about Edison?

?
Meh. I guess I have higher standards than you. I actually consider 90th place to be fairly crappy.
I am currently renting a home in Chatham and I am thinking about Morristown. Chatham is a great town with great schools but has no diversity and is expensive.
Any thoughts?
Are you being discriminated in Chatham? If not then why not to stay put? After all Chatham seems to be a pretty good town with good schools right?

I think people here put too much emphasis on rankings rather than actually investigating the school districts themselves. That list that everyone here loves to quote was put together by a magazine. I wonder how many people even know the basis for the rankings. I mean, how can you compare a #70 and a #80 school for example? How much "better" is the #70 than the #80? I think you need to look at groups of rankings rather than the actual numbers. For example, 1 - 50 = Excellent, 51-100 = very good, 101-150 = good, etc. I think you would need to at least be in the 200's to be considered a "bad" district.
Not that I am aware of but you don't always know when you a victim of discrimination.
I would love to just move into an area with the best schools that i could afford but I don't want to put my children in a school system with little or no diversity.

I agree because a school with more diversity that is in the very good range would be a better fit for me than a school that is excellent and has no diversity.
Morristown is not as bad as some potray. Its definitely much better than other NJ cities like Newark, Jersey City, Elizabeth. There is still a significant wealthy population in the Morristown area.
Edison is a melting pot town. Large Asian population, especially Indians & also Chinese. Significant white population who are mostly blue collar. Also has significant African-American & Hispanic population. Its a huge town. A Mix of everybody. North Edison is the wealthy part of Edison with a large Asian presence of mostly Indian.
