What I find interesting is learning the history behind the ruins. I can't believe there was a velodrome (bicycle racing track) in Newark!!! The pictures I saw of it were amazing,
If the OP can confirm that the first picture is on Washington Street by the courthouse, I can fill in the history. I think I worked in that building over 25 years ago!

Reason: Street, not Avenue
because maybe some people find it interesting. kind of like looking at a car crash as you drive by or taking a second look at a really ugly person. nothing wrong with showing pictures of it.
I agree with Captain. Also, observing the decay of certain areas of NJ's inner-cities is perhaps a way to start a discussion on why it has decayed. I happen to be a big fan of abandoned industrial sites. Maybe I will get my camera gear out and snap some pictures of some areas along Ave P. in Newark, or Lockwood and Blanchard Sts. I'll try and get them on this thread soon!!!
I guess if you changed the title of the thread to "NJ's Urban Decay/Blight" than it would make sense because, honestly, urban decay is not the worst thing in NJ. If it was about the worst things in NJ, I'd be posting up NJ politicians.
I see those delapidated places as 'the once upon a time' dreams that people created and maintained with pride. There is something sacred about honoring the dreams of the past. Looking at these old photos gives perspective to our dreams and future plans.
Yards with old boats and cars do the same thing for me. They represent the presence of hope that lives in that house. It is not important whether or not someone fulfills that dream. Dreams and hope are the fuel that keep us going.... whether or not they are fulfilled is unimportant.
Didn't have the chance to snap a photo but a while back by the 280 on ramp from Route 21 in Newark there was about 20 square yards of dirt between the ramp and highway and honest to goodness there had to be at least a couple thousand beer cans and bottles. Quite a site to behold actually.

No, Sorry... this building is on Springfield Ave. at the corner of S 11th Street. It's not too far from Washington and the Courthouse though. Thank's for the interest.
ATTENTION EVERYONE!! Due to the controversy of this thread, I've decided to remake a new thread that focuses more on Urban Decay (what I wanted in the first place). It's called "NJ Urban Decay - Picture Thread" I have revised the original post and added some great new pictures... It's very interesting, so feel free to check it out! (but please leave the negative comments out of it and don't clutter up the thread). If some people feel the need to complain about this, go ahead and start a new thread called "I want to complain about threads about Urban Decay" and knock yourselves out.
