I was going to use my gas powered leaf blower last Saturday for the huge amount of leaves in my front- and backyard, but gave up after a few minutes. I suppose since the leaves were still wet from the earlier rain, a lot of them didn't move well. So I got the good old rake out and did the job that way. Was pretty easy and I got a good workout.
Who needs a noisy smelly gas blower...

Rake - all the way. Also snow shovel over blower. These more expensive tools are useless in wet leaves and heavy snow. Save your $$$ and put it elsewehere.

I use both, tomorrow I will do mine, leaves will be dry. I have an electric blower and it works well, it can be converted to a mulcher/vacuum.

i use the electric blower on dry leaves to get them into some semblance of a pile, then i switch out to the vacum/mulcher and use the rake to pile up the last bits for the vacum. Took me about 1.5 hours to do about 1800sqft.

Do you guys think I will need a leaf blower? The lot on our house will be 20,000 sq in a heavily wooded area...

I just did a quick search on craigslist and the prices are all over the place, I even saw a craftsman for $15. Is that too cheap?

Help!! I've NEVER had to rake before...

I do given the amount of leaves that have to be relocated on my spread as I have lots of huge trees

My blower will move pretty much everything and has reduced the labor time down to about 3 hours per session.

Honestly, you might want to just hire a landscaper to do it. Well worth it. They should come a couple of times during Oct/Nov with these big leaf-vacuums. Money well spent.

Using a rake has some Zen qualities to it. I find it relaxing. I rake up for the old woman who lives next door, too, for free.
