I am considering taking a job at 280 Park Avenue in the city. I live in East Hanover. What's the best way to commute? Is driving even a viable option? I'm leaning toward taking NjTransit fron Newark to Penn Station and then taking the E-train to get closer to my building at 280 Park Ave.

I don't work in the city but what I usually do when I'm going there is drive to the PATH station in Harrison.
Driving to the Harrison PATH station into the city is a good option. Not sure what parking prices are there, but the PATH to the E train would be relatively affordable.

You can save some money on gas and maintainance by buying a monthly pass for the rail line, and then using the pass to take a bus from Newark Penn Station to get closer to your home.
There is the #79, which stops by Route 46 in Pine Brook. It takes about 40 minutes to get to Newark Penn Station, where you can get the NJT train to NY Penn Station.
There is also the #73, which stops on Route 10 (Mount Pleasant Avenue). That takes about 50 minutes to get to Newark Penn Station.
The CoachUSA #77 has a few buses from East Hanover into Manhattan, takes 70 minutes to Port Authority (which is on the E). There's very few runs through East Hanover, however, 4 inbound and 3 outbound.
You could drive to the Codey Arena (Northfield and Pleasant Valley in West Orange) and pick up the #77 there as well for more options.
Parking at Harrison PATH is $10/12 hours; note you're likely going to hit heavy traffic on 280 from West Orange to Newark, and also the PATH takes you either to WTC or to 6th Avenue, either of which is pretty far from where you want to be.
