STATEWIDE -- In what could become the highest profile game of political musical chairs in the state, Democratic sources claim they are considering replacing U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg with outgoing Gov. Jon Corzine.

It would work like this: Corzine would resign prior to January, when Republican Christopher Christie takes over as governor. A Corzine resignation would allow state Sen. President Richard Codey to serve as acting governor. Then Lautenberg would retire from the U.S. Senate, leaving Codey to name Corzine to fill the seat until a special election.

This is similar to a move made when Corzine resigned the senate to become governor, when he named then Rep. Bob Menendez to fill his own seat.

The move would prevent Christie from being able to name a replacement for the aging Lautenberg and would give Corzine a leg up as a senate incumbent in the special election next November.

Hudson Reporter - Democrats discuss having Corzine resign early then replace Lautenberg

Sen. Frank Lautenberg is to vain to retire, the Dems would have to make a real sweat deal with him to retire.......and of course banking on the hopes that by time the special election takes place we will for get the damages done and keep Corizine in the senate seat

Is it just me, or when it comes to the New Jersey Democrat party, does it seem that those who hold power are more interested in just that, retention of power, than in instituting and promoting policy that favors most New Jerseyans? When I say most, I mean those who are actually employed in the private sector, or might dare to start a small business, or create worth, instead of consuming it, or attempting to redistribute it? If you look at the last 10 years of behavior in the state with regard to this political party, from the legislature, to the statehouse, to the judiciary, objectively, in a non-partisan manner, one can't help but cringe. It's a complete disgrace.

The only way you New Jerseyans can fight back against this crap is to keep coming to the voting booth every first Tuesday after the First Monday in November, and keep voting these bastards out of office.

Mike0421- relax. You might get a heart attack. This is politics, not bingo. They are All politicians, not priests.

Republican have done Musical Chairs not once, not twice, not thrice- many times !!!They've done that in the past in Ohio, Alabama,Texas, Kansas, North Dakota. Breath in , Breath out.

This is not a democratic thing. Its not even a Republican thing. Its a "political thing' that politicians do.

We even have a adulterous, abusive Republican Governor in South Carolina TODAY who refuses to give up his throne. We even have an adulterous, abusive Republican Senator in Nevada who refuses to resign

We even have this fellow, Tom Delay literally CHANGED singlehandedly the Entire House districts in Texas that gave 5 new GOP seats to House Republicans when he came into office. Its was unprecented abuse of power.

We have this fellow, name George W. Bush, came into office in 2000, ABSOLUTELY 100% No MANDATE, Got less votes than his opponent Al Gore,( the 1st President to get less popular votes in 100 years !!!), had to become President by being appointed by the republican dominate US Supreme Court. What did this guy WITHOUT NO MANDATE do ???

Start Two Wars, blow the entire US Deficit to historic proportions, appoint a dog trainer friend to handle FEMA that caused the worse natural tragedy, and Literally Destroys the US Economy as we all know it before leaving office. Causes a near historic collapse on September 17, 2008 of the entire US economic system. Leaves office with historic job losses!!!!

Now that's an outrage! musical chairs???Big deal !!! Ask Tom Delay! Its no big deal.

Obama? President Obama won by a landslide both on popular votes and electoral votes. That's what you call MANDATE ! A CLEAR MANDATE!

But republicans want him to ask them for approval on his policies on health care & the economy? Excuse me ! We won, you lost! We voted for his agenda.

Did George " NO mandate" Bush ask us before starting Two Wars & Wasting Trillions of OUR TAX DOLLARS on some stupid war??? I don't think so.

Lead by thinking, not by your emotions ! Inhale, Exhale !

It would have taken Corzine 10 terms as a failed Governor to ever make-up for what republican George Bush has done to america!!! The entire nation, the entire state is hurting because of 8 years of Bush, 12 years of Tom Delay, Newt Gingrich!
