Akon isn't from Newark. He's from St. Louis and he used to live in Irvington, not Newark. And yeah, Jay used to live in Trenton. Don't know about the story surrounding that.

ok.. putting my two cents in..

why is NO ONE talking about Joe Budden reppin Jersey, and Jersey City??

he's dropped 3 albums in the last 18 months. sorely underrated. check him on youtube.

And Akon lived in Jersey City too....

other then that tho... NJ today is pretty quiet ... Joe Budden is about it, no one else even creates a buzz.

I'll check out Joe Budden. Thanks. Don't pick up too much rap -- last one was Mos Def's latest (loved that one) but should get more.

Default Lady Luck

You ever listened to Lady Luck? In my opinion she's the best recent rapper out of Jersey (male or female). Personally she's one of my favorite rappers.

My Target (2009) - Lady Luck

Pot Of Gold (2009) - Lady Luck

I think she's from either Jersey City, Newark, or Englewood, I forgot lol.

Wow. There's a blast from the 2003 past. Haven't heard anything from Joe Budden since Pump It Up. Didn't even know he was still performing. I guess just none of his songs have caught on. He's gotta collaborate with someone and get back into popularity.

From what I read once, he moved to Trenton when the high school he was going to in Brooklyn shut down or something like that. In one of his songs he mentions "Trenton raised me" or something to that effect. I'm sure for publicity and image's sake, it's a lot better to rep Brooklyn than Trenton, though. He jumped on the post-B.I.G. bandwagon.

listening to rap is worse than listening to nails being raked across a blackboard.

Wow....it took until almost the third page of this thread before someone mentioned Joe Budden. He is definitely nice. Redman is the greatest from Jersey, though.

Although most rappers weren't born or raised in Jersey, the truth is that once their rap careers blew up, the majority of them moved out of the NY boroughs in a heartbeat and have lived in Jersey ever since.

Rappers from NY who moved to Jersey once they became famous:

Fabolous, Camron, Fat Joe, Jay-Z, Lil Kim

The list goes on and on.

Same with a good number of the Yankees players:

C.C. Sabathia, Melky Cabrera, Jose Molina, Robinson Cano, etc.
